Dr Alex Pavlotski
Illustrator, Co-Author, Cultural Anthropologist
Alex has been involved as an illustrator and co-author of Wesley’s World since the beginning. He had just completed a year of fieldwork in Japan when he became involved in the project. As an anthropologist, he was researching the power of pictures. He had discovered that images, words and relatable characters (real and imaginary) had more power than we had traditionally though. He was writing an honors thesis on the power of mixed types of communication (words, symbols, pictures and characters) and he discovered that these mixed formats could tell complicated stories, and even deliver abstract academic arguments, in a sophisticated but accessible way. As an illustrator, and academic of how people speak and think, his cause was the process of learning and engaging with ideas.
